Mexican Food

Mexican food is internationally recognized for its distinctive flavors. It has a big influence of different cultures and that is what makes it so interesting and delicious. It is an amalgam of Prehispanic and European elements.
During the Prehispanic era the natives had their diet mainly based on vegetables but the most important ingredients were Corn and Chile. There were also tomatoes, cactus, avocado, pumpkin, vanilla and cocoa(chocolate). They also had animals in their diet like turkey or what they could hunt as deer, badger, quail, duck and white fish.
Since the Spanish Conquest new ingredients were added, meat like pork and cow coming from Europe. For this interesting fusion, Mexican food is considered one of the most delicious Worldwide. Some of the conquistadors also took some of their main spices and ingredients to the rest of the world so there is a lot of influence of the Mexican food in the International Gastronomy as well.
In the last 2 decades emerged a new style of Mexican food which is The Gourmet Mexican Cuisine or New Mexican Food as is called, this new trend is bringing new energy to the traditional Mexican food.
Food and Cooking are a very important in Mexico, and can be the center of social life. It is an event that binds friendships, reinforce family bonds; even important business transactions take place around Dinner or Lunch.
There are dishes for special events or parties like Mole or Tamales but even though these are festive meals menu, they can be eaten any time in the year and for no specific reason. Tequila is a very distinctive drink made in Mexico only and now Mexican Beers and Wines form Baja California and Queretaro are also internationally known.
In Mexico there are different styles of Mexican food depending on the area. In each State they have their specialties but all of them keep the Corn, Chile and Beans as the main ingredient. Corn is used for tortillas or for Pozole or Menudo. In Mexican food flour is also use to make sweet bread and pastries or to make flour tortillas for quesadillas and chimichangas or buñuelos which is a sweet fry tortilla.

In Mazatlan the traditional regional food is delicious and not as hot and spicy as it is in the south of the Country, but it is very tasty. Some examples of traditional dishes Sinaloenses are: Pollo a la Plaza, Asado a la Plaza, Pozole, Menudo, the wonderful tortilla soup, chilaquiles, enchiladas and of course sea food, especially since Mazatlan is considered internationally the Shrimp Capital.
At any home it is common to find marlin stew or shrimp ceviche, Pescado sarandeado, or mahi mahi garlic filet, breaded shrimp, shrimp empanadas, shrimp brochette and more; any of this dishes are serve with rice or guacamole on site. Do you like fruit? In this Estate you will find the freshest fruit like mango, pineapple, guava, banana, watermelon, papaya and surely coconut. There is a very characteristic drink made of fruits like a smoothie and is called “Raspado”. Well I have a good recommendation for you, after eating any of this succulent treat and make it part of your daily life take a nice and slow walk by the largest boardwalk in Mexico “El Malecon de Mazatlán” just to keep in good shape and feel the cool breeze while enjoying our worldwide sunset. That is what a lot of people that have made Mazatlan their home do; and they really enjoy living in this Paradise. Pulmonías from Mazatlan

All the people that has visited Mazatlan are surprise by the very picturesque public transportation that there is in the city, everybody knows and love “PULMONIAS” (Pneumonia).
Pulmonía is the name Mazatlecos have given them. Why? To answer you that, we are going to make a trip to the past, to 1962.
During that year a local business man was giving form to an old idea, the idea of having a popular transportation that were characteristic from the city and that in some way replaced the already gone “ARAÑAS” (old wood wagons tide by horses) that were old times Taxis.
He saw then a 3 wheel little car in a garage that it wasn’t in use any more, as soon as he saw it he knew it was what he was looking for. These cars were golf cars Cushman brand and were made in Nebraska.
This visionary man is Don Miguel “Chicharo” Ramirez, he knocked on many doors, visited many banks asking for a loan to start a business, but money was denied by all thinking this wasn’t a good idea; he didn’t back up on his plans, he was decided to succeed. He traveled to Nebraska and talked to the board and for his surprise they agreed to finance 8 cars, then he had to import them from United Estates to Mazatlan and put them in a big garage in Constitución street # 606. Don Miguel Valadez Lejarza a friend of his made a fiberglass structure and some changes and adjustments.
Now the main thing was to get all the permits authorized so they could go out to the streets. One day the Governor of Sinaloa Mr. Leopoldo Sánchez Celis was in town, so “El Chicharo” drove on one of his 3 wheels little cars and parked in front of the Hotel where the Governor was staying. The governor was astonished by this cute and estrange vehicle but he liked them very much and told “El Chicharo” to finish 16 and he was going to help him, after all they were friends. Just before he ended his period as Governor, he authorized and signed all the permits for the cars to be able to circulate as a public transportation.
On December the 20th of 1965 the 16 cars went out to the streets, on something like a parade and “El Chicharo” playing the accordion celebrating the event.
They were such a success that on the first year “El Chicharo” wanted to import another 16. These little cars were accepted since the beginning by the locals; however, there were problems with the Taxi unions and city buses and they started a big discredit campaign against the new little cars and when they saw people getting in on one of those, they told them they would get sick by using them for been open cars, they would get Pulmonía (pneumonia). So people started calling them “PULMONIAS”.
The good relationship that “El Chicharo” had with the new Governor helped him to have the success that he achieved and within 3 years he had already 100 pulmonías working.
They were accepted at the beginning because they were original and cute little cars, but then they were also giving a good and inexpensive service.
This company grew up very fast, and soon they had their own Service Center in which they had a department for carpentry, smithy, soldiering, mechanic, wheel repair and more. The size of the center was of 1000 m2 (10763.91 sq ft), and it was located in the corner of Constitución and Carnaval street, where now is located the city’s art school.
The employees made a union and asked the Governor for support so they could get some of the vehicles with their corresponding permits. This was considered by “El Chicharo” and other citizens as unfair and violating his rights of owning an enterprise and work the free market.
On April 4th 1975, all the pulmonías were lock for a month, leaving the citizens without the very popular transportation. The same year on may 28th and without reaching any agreement “El Chicharo” got the order by the Government to give back to the State all the permits to canceled them; then the government started issuing provisional permits to the Union. And this way the history of the pulmonías got into a new phase.
An administrator was assign to control and be responsible of the operation and work of the Pulmonías Union.
The job they did was so bad that from the 110 pulmonías that they got at the beginning, there were only 24 left. Their next step was to let the Union work by it self. And they got into another phase in the history of the transportation in Mazatlan.
They made some new changes and variations to the original model trying to keep it the closest to the basic and important characteristics; the 3 wheels were replace by 4 to make it more stable and the Cushman chassis was replace for a Volkswagen to lower down the cost of production.
In many other place in Mexico have tried to imitate this peculiar transportation but they haven’t been successful in arranging the permits, besides Pulmonías are register at the Mexican Institute of the Industrial Property.

I’m sure next time you see a Pulmonía you will see more than just a fast, easy and fun way to get to your destination, now you know a little bit more about the fascinating life of the great Mazatlecos.
And don’t forget when you take one to enjoy the wind blowing your hair and the cool breeze touching your face and see Mazatlan from a different perspective from an open window as it is everything in Mazatlan a wide open window to new life experiences that you can reach just by extending your arms and opening you hands. Many people have done that and have discovered the wonderful Mazatlan Real Estate and now they enjoy every day in Paradise.

The Sea Farer Restaurant

The Sea Farer restaurant at Marina Costa Bonita, it’s one of the best restaurants in Mazatlan, it offers a new Dining concept. Great service, unique ambiance, and fabulous cuisine tide together in one place.
Partnering with Marina Costa Bonita, owner Alfredo Gomez Rubio has succeeded in creating an elegant and gorgeous menu infused with Pacific Rim-inspired dishes.

Yellow-Fin Tuna with ginger and soy atop rice cakes, encrusted with toasty sesame seeds, still pink in the middle, is absolutely perfect, a refreshing green leaves with seared scallops & shrimp, tidbits of grapefruit and orange with a light, almost transparent dressing, a sweet and tangy veil of flavor, Filet Medallions in Green Peppercorn Sauce are equally scrumptious. Appetizers are impressive, Tender Guajillo octopus, Rockefeller oysters, Portobello Mushrooms with Artichoke and Mozzarella. Full Bar, Wine List, Live (quiet music), Open Tuesday thru Sunday noon to midnight.
The restaurant it is circular, open-air layout surrounded by fresh and saltwater lagoons, ponds, waterfalls and trickling streams. Tables fan out from the center “donut-hole” pond, where tropical fish meander lazily, and to one side a path leads onto a literal island. Upstairs one finds a “Widow’s Walk,” tropical style, replete with a row of comfy rockers to watch the sunset. The effect is quite magical, especially at night, when the smooth lines, underwater lights and candlelit tables combine to create a tranquil hide-away.
Opening The Sea Farer it is birthing not just a business, but a community center for Mazatlán’s newest neighborhood, Nuevo Marina Mazatlán.

The Friendly People In Mazatlan And Mazatlan Condos Best Value

One of the highlights about Mazatlan is its people, tourist are pleasantly surprise by the hospitality of Mazatlecos that go all the way out to give an outstanding service. A lot of people have asked me why that phenomenon happens in Mazatlan like no where else in Mexico? Well it is very easy, the local people who lives and work in Mazatlan are natives, they were born and rise in Mazatlan or in a little town close to Mazatlan. Mazatlan is their home town and they love it, they didn’t go to other cities looking for new opportunities they want Mazatlan to be a better place, they work hard to give Mazatlan opportunities.
They appreciate tourist ver much because they know what tourism represents for the city. They are so proud of their city that want to share it with others so they get to know it well enough and fall in love too, that way people will come back and recommend it.
You will find in Mazatlan a lot of people who speak English but some others don’t, which isn’t a problem when they try to help a tourist. As an example you are downtown and have in your map a specific place you want to visit but for some reason you don’t find it and ask a local pedestrian: excuse me can you tell me where this address is? He or She won’t main to take a look of your map and will explain how to get there some times just with signs or they will walk you to the place regardless if they were in a hurry or not; you can see things in Mazatlan like this one: a cashier running blocks after a client that didn’t take the change back, or some one that forgot a hat, camera or wallet at a Restaurant. Mazatlan is full of Honest and friendly people.
You will experience how it feels to see every where you go smiley faces from strangers, people you have never seen looking at you kindly and giving you the warmest smile.
A lot people have found in Mazatlan the place of their dreams. I personally know people who came for the first time and love it, then they came back for a longer period each time until they started looking into buy a property so they could move in. The foreign community harmonizes with the spirit and attitude of Mazatlecos so there is a general atmosphere of friendship and kindness in the City.
Mazatlan is a very important tourist beach destination and now due to its attractive Mazatlan Real Estate it has become one of the preferred cities to retired and to have a second home or just to invest. Mazatlan Condos has a lot to offer, don’t miss the opportunity.
